Welcome to an online seminar where Rosa Danenberg will present her PhD research "Main streets as resilient public spaces: Zooming in on ground floors in Stockholm".
Date: Wednesday, 20th November
Time: 12:10-13:10
Location: Online (Link to follow)
The seminar will be conducted in english.
In this seminar, Rosa Danenberg will present her doctoral research that she defended in December 2023 at KTH, Division of Urban and Regional Studies. Her research explores the role of main streets and ground floors in the inner-city of Stockholm, focusing on their adaptability and resilience. Danenberg employed a mixed-methods approach, combining spatial analysis using Google Street View data in Stockholm (2009-2018) with property ownership data from Datscha, as well as ethnographic observations and interviews.
Focusing on four streets (Hornsgatan, Odengatan, Hantverkargatan and Götgatan), Danenberg investigate the ground floor change and socio-spatial transformations driven by factors like (retail) gentrification, the pandemic and tenure conversion with special focus on Cooperative housing associations (Bostadsrättsföreningar).
Through this research, Danenberg demonstrate the significant role small businesses and property ownership play in shaping main streets as vibrant, adaptable public spaces. The findings offer insights into how planning, design, and management can support the future resilience of these vital public spaces.
